Emperor Caligula's (John Simm) mind is unraveling and in a fit of rage he murders his sister's husband on false charges of conspiracy and sends Agrippina (Laura Morante, HOTEL) into exile. Adopting Agrippina's son Nero (Hans Matheson, TV's DR. ZHIVAGO) as his heir, the Emperor hands the young man the throne by means of a false will.
